Adults

As rheumatologists, we offer consultative, diagnostic and therapeutic services for in-patients and out-patients.  Outpatient services are at our office on East Paris SE in Grand Rapids.  We perform hospital consultations at both Spectrum Health - Butterworth Campus as well as Saint Mary's Mercy Medical Center. 

We have expertise in areas such as:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory arthritis
  • Spondyloarthropathies i.e. Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis 
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosis, and related diseases i.e. Antiphospholipid Syndrome
  • Scleroderma 
    • Raynaud’s phenomenon
    • Intersitial lung disease related to connective tissue disease
    • Eosinophilic fasciitis, morphea and other fibrosing skin conditions
  • Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis
  • Sjögren's Syndrome
  • Vasculitis including: Giant cell arteritis, Wegener's Granulomatosis and related diseases
  • Gout & Pseudogout
  • Osteoarthritis 
  • Osteoporosis


Children

Pediatric rheumatologists lead multidisciplinary teams of physicians from a variety of medical specialties for the most thorough patient care. Other medical specialists who frequently consult with our pediatric rheumatologists include orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists and neurologists.  

Our Board Certified Pediatric rheumatogist, Dr. James Birmingham, provides outpatient services at our office on East Paris SE in Grand Rapids. 

We have expertise in areas such as:

  • Juvenile arthritis, including juvenile onset spondyloarthropathies
  • Juvenile onset dermatomyositis
  • Localized forms of scleroderma scleroderma i.e.  linear scleroderma or morphea
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
  • Vasculitis including Henoch Schoenlein Purpura
